I'm a backend-first engineer with production experience across the stack: Go and Python on the back end, React and Next.js on the front end, deployed and run on AWS. I like owning a feature from end to end, from the APIs and cloud infrastructure to the responsive UI on top.

My background is in microservice architecture, event-driven systems with Kafka and RabbitMQ, and CI/CD. I graduated with distinction in Software Engineering from Addis Ababa University.

  1. Oct 2026 – Now

    Ruthina Essentials online store

    Private client · WordPress & WooCommerce

    • Designed and built a phone-first online store for an Ethiopian pajama and loungewear brand as a custom WooCommerce theme, with hand-written CSS, vanilla JavaScript and no plugins beyond WooCommerce.
    • Built a pay-on-delivery checkout for Addis Ababa where the phone number is the customer’s account, with landmark addresses and an optional map pin on free OpenStreetMap services.
    • Sent new orders to the staff’s Telegram group through a bot whose buttons confirm, complete or cancel them in WooCommerce, and tested every page at phone and desktop widths with Puppeteer.
  2. Jul 2026 – Now

    Discourse community platform

    Client project · Oracle Cloud

    • Deployed Discourse to production on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, using Docker and Docker Compose for a reproducible, containerized setup.
    • Set up an Nginx reverse proxy with Let’s Encrypt TLS, DNS, and firewall and security-list hardening for the public instance.
    • Configured PostgreSQL, Redis and SMTP for transactional email, with automated backups and ongoing monitoring.
  3. May – Jun 2026

    ISADE Ethiopia website

    Freelance project · React

    • Built the organization’s official website as a responsive, multilingual React single-page app covering its mission, programs, publications, news and events.
    • Worked directly with the client on requirements, then delivered enhancements, content updates and technical support.
    • Applied SEO and mobile-first design to improve reach and accessibility across devices.
  4. Feb 2025 – May 2026

    Freight In Time

    Freelance project · Backend, team of two

    • Designed and built the backend of a proof-of-delivery system for the Ethiopian Pharmaceutical Supply Service (EPSS) as three microservices: Core, Auth, and Kafka-based async messaging.
    • Provisioned and managed the deployment on AWS, including Kafka for event-driven processing and API Gateway for service endpoints.
    • Worked with an intermediary company and a technical consultant to keep the integration aligned with stakeholder requirements.
  5. Dec 2023 – May 2024

    Phase 2 Growth

    Data science · Remote

    • Built and hosted data solutions with Python and Flask.
    • Worked fully remotely, with weekly syncs with my manager to keep scope and progress aligned.
    • Built a Power BI dashboard tailored to the client’s reporting needs.
